Question

Some people have referred to World War I and World War II collectively as a "Second Thirty Years' War" because WWII was in many ways rooted in aftermath of WWI. They argue that the two wars were so intimately connected that they were almost like one war with a long pause. Whether this is correct or not, can you explain any ways in which WWII was caused by WWI, or by issues created in the aftermath of WWI? Or are there any reasons why we shouldn't see them as one long war - that is, were they too different to be seen this way? Make sure to provide concrete historical examples in your answers.
