After you've researched how local newspapers/websites and local broadcast stations covered the shootings of homeless individuals in New York and Washington DC, post your findings here.
Do you think that the stories you found pander, stereotype and generally treat homeless people as marginalized? Or are they respectful and careful about how they address both the people and the issues?
Did the stories treat homeless people more sympathetically than usual because of the danger involved? Or did they repeat some of the same "othering" even as they were reporting attacks on the unhoused?
Sources:
Keep this to NYC and perhaps some DC media, since the story involved Washington as well.
Search the local TV stations' websites (or YouTube channels)- NY1, CBS 2, NBC 4, FOX 5, ABC 7, and PIX 11 are good places to start to find broadcast stories.
Likewise, the Daily News, NY Post, The City, New York Times or maybe one of your local news outlets in Brooklyn or Queens are good places to look for print/online stories to compare with the broadcast stories.
