This proposed initiative is based on the concept that in order to solve critical environmental problems, such as climate change, it is imperative that we alter the way that modern society functions as a whole. Critically analyze some of the ideas and perspectives that are outlined in this proposal and consider the validity of framing environmental issues in social, moral and economic terms. Remember, this is NOT a political debate, but a consideration of ways in which environmental problems impact health and health disparities and what policy solutions should look like.

After reading the legislative proposal (which some have actually described as an RFP) consider the following points in a well developed and substantiated initial response to the discussion:

1. What are the scientific, economic, ethical and political considerations presented in this proposal?

2. Which of these perspectives do you think is the most important? Why?

3. Review all of the provisions of the GND. Which of these appear to be the most important?

4. How does attention to universal health care, job guarantee programs and affordable housing link to concerns about environmental health issues?

5. How do matters of economic and social inequality relate to health disparities associated with environmental hazards?

6. Does all components of this proposal fit into a realistic approach to solving these issues or would climate-specific policy proposals better address the problem? Explain and support your position specifically.
