Many times during environmental studies in Ecology students will say "I can do what I want it's a free country". "You can't tell me where to throw my trash or to recycle or even to drive a car that gets better gas mileage." How can you respond intelligently regarding the realities of pollution, global warming, resource depletion etc.?

Should animals which are in danger of becoming extinct be bred in captivity just to keep the species alive? Should they be housed in zoos etc. if there is no place to release them to their native environment? Should extinct animals be cloned (if DNA is available le) to reintroduce the species? (cloning an mammoth from frozen cells using an elephant as a surrogate mother)

What if we find a cure for AIDS ......... but then more people would be alive to consume more resources ..... would countries/governments want to cure their people to stay alive and then starve to death?
