According to Webster's Dictionary, science is the systemic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. Your textbook defines ethics as being "concerned with standards of behavior and the concept of right and wrong, over and above that which is legal in a given situation" (Judson and Harrison, 2010, p. 9). In essence, this is saying that although an act may not be ethical, it doesn't mean that it is illegal.

With this in mind, what is your opinion regarding this statement: Science cannot be science without a consideration of the ethics involved. How should ethics guide biomedical research? What role should the law play in the field of bioethics?
