Assignment - Scholarly Journal Article VS Popular Magazine Article
There are differences between a scholarly Journal Article and a Popular Magazine Article. The Characteristics are as followed. The Popular Magazine Article only describes general facts about a subject on a study or research that has been performed with random people. The general public is supplying the information. Publishing in frequent. It could be weekly, every other week, or monthly. In popular Magazine Articles its all new age stuff. They want to catch the readers attention with photography and or colorful illustrations. There is bibliography at the end of the Article. Articles are not long. They tend to use a publishing company. They sale them in every store.
The characteristics of a Scholarly Journal Article are as followed. The articles are researched and original. Its information are studies and experiments. Their researched from professionals, scholars, and people in the field. They publish about the subject and field they are in. They do not publish as much like every other month or even quarterly. There are no photos its only research that is at hand. With informational charts and graphs of the researched data collected from the research done. There is an extensive amount of information and it tends to be long. At the end they include a bibliography.
There are similarities, such as the contents are informational. The outline is both numbered and they both collect data and do research. The differences that are to the obvious are, where the research comes from and the crowd. Also, there is a difference on how much data is in the article There is a difference where you would find the article.
So, the topic choosing to research for the remainder of this course is the effects of television and violent movies on children. The Scholarly article choose was "The Effects of Television Violence on Children and Youth and the popular magazine article I choose was "Violence on T.V and How it effects your children". The similarities they have are as followed. They both are researching the same subject. They both have it published. They both feel the same about T.V and children effects.
'The differences in the articles are as followed. The crowd of people who are answering the survey come from different walks of life. The language and terminology. The candidates they used are on different levels. For example: In research and data collection for the Scholarly Article they researchers were scientists/Psychologist. For the Popular Magazine Article uses random groups.
