He has no symptoms, but his primary provider has ordered this procedure as a baseline study based on suggested guidelines for cancer screening by the American Cancer Society. The patient is instructed by the nurse that he will be placed on a clear liquid diet the day before the examination and will take GoLYTELY every 3 to 4 hours until bowel results are clear liquid.
