Consider the following scenario regarding a home security system which includes:

• an external video component,
• an external motion detector for the front and back porch,
• door sensors to indicate when a door is opened,
• window sensors to indicate when a window is opened or the glass is broken, and
• motion detectors inside the home.

Steve recently spent a ridiculous among of money on his new home security system. Confident, he brags to his neighbors that he stores lots of cash in the house, Unfortunately, a thief overhears the conversation. The following night Steve leaves for the evening and alarms his security system. An hour later, a thief poses as an Amazon delivery person and delivers a (fake) package to the front porch. Although acting as a delivery person, the thief notices the video and motion sensors on the porch, and the door and window sensors. Steve is alerted by his system (on his phone); but is pleased that he is receiving his Amazon order. The thief leaves.

Three hours later, the thief returns with some advanced equipment. She approaches a window and notices that the window sensors are wireless and takes notes of the manufacture. After looking up the frequencies in a book, she turns on a wireless jamming box and tapes it to the side of the window. She then cuts a small hole in the window and reaches in to unlock and open the window. Steve is alerted to the communication "malfunction;" but is busy eating dinner at a restaurant-he doesn't pay attention.  The thief then discovers the motion detector inside the house; but is easily able to disable it, allowing her to walk to the main control console. She uses another piece of equipment that renders the control console un-usable and the system disarms. She proceeds to the "safe" (a cigar box) and opens it. Frustrated, she sees only ten dollars! "That cheapskate" she exclaims.

At that moment, Steve returns home and enters the house, turns on the light, and proclaims, "Honey, why are dressed all in black?" Examining the security system, he realizes that it is broken and will need to be replaced. Oh well.
