Assignment : SARA Model
Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) found its origins in the work of Herman Goldstein, a police scholar. POP's application has been tied to current practices in crime reduction strategies among police agencies throughout the United States and the world. A key element of POP (the problem-solving process) is the Scanning, Analysis, Response, and Assessment (SARA) Model.
On the basis of your understanding about the SARA Model, please share your responses for Part 1 and Part 2 of the assignment.
Part 1
Share your responses to the following:
1. Discuss the SARA Model of POP and explain how it works.
2. Provide examples of each element of the SARA Model. Each of the four elements of the SARA Model has at least five different techniques or methods related to problem solving. Select two techniques or methods from each element and explain why you believe these are important for each element.
Part 2
A neighborhood bar was the source of citizen complaints on a regular basis. Reports of loud music, drunken behavior, and fights in the parking lots resulted in multiple responses by the police to the location. On the basis of the scenario, please respond to the following:
1. Explain how the SARA Model could be incorporated to solve the problem faced by the community.
2. Explain how the SARA Model would be utilized by a police department that was considering implementing community policing.
