Question: Read the below personal view on crime and safety. Respond with your thoughts and personal opinions.

When it comes to crimes increasing worldwide while leveling off in the United States I don't truly think that's the case. With the defunding of police officers, I believe that they are underreporting crimes to make it seem like the police are doing their jobs and the criminals are actually getting caught. As it said in the Textbook Arrest rates are just that - data on people who break the law and then get arrested. But what about the ones who don't get arrested? We semi know what the arrest reports are in America but we don't know if they are overreporting or underreporting and we also don't know how many criminals are on the streets that have not been caught.

I do feel safe at home, due to the protection that we have in our house. We have two dogs that will bark and scare away anyone they do not know as well as utilizing the right to bear arms. My stepdad is retired military so the whole family knows the safety and protocol for using these and when they are needed. We also have cameras around the house to make sure there are no unwanted guests on our property.

I think the rates will decrease as long as the police rebuild their reputation with the community. That being said there are a lot of reasons that crime could possibly go up and there are reasons right now. One of them is inflation, due to prices rising on everything around us and the minimum wage staying the same a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet and "having" to commit petty crimes to survive and no matter what the polices credibility is with the community I believe if the states stay on the same path petty crime will just continue and grow.
