Managing Service-based Industries
Assessment - S-D Logic webisode
Your task
You are required to record a 10-minute video in which you must explain the five (5) key axioms of Service-Dominant Logic while using a service experience.
Assessment Description
This individual assessment aims to foster students' ability to evaluate consumers' decision-making processes in service-based contexts and the use of service design and service-dominant logic in delivering service experiences. By providing a formative video in which they record themselves and explain a service experience and all 5 axioms of S-D logic involved in this experience. Students must unpack the experience and share a basic understanding of a common service encounter. Once the experience has been presented, students can break down the experience and identify the 5 axioms represented in the chosen experience. Students will be assessed on their ability to identify a service encounter in which the 5 key axioms of S-D logic are present. The quality of the recording, presentation and explanation will also be assessed.
Assessment Instructions
To help you start this assessment, please review the "Workshop 3" content. During this session, the subject coordinator provided a recording example of how a service experience can be understood and correlated to service-dominant logic.
Please review the example, as it provides a comparison point for your assessment. You can use the recording provided as a guideline. However, you must select a unique experience. You cannot select the same experience as the example provided in class.
You can select from an unlimited range of experiences. Ensure that you leverage your selection process and choose an experience with a distinct link to the 5 axioms of S-D logic. Identify a service experience in which the 5 key axioms of S-D logic are present. Remember, the axioms have been summarised into service, value, actors, resources, and institutions.
Once you have selected an experience, you must record yourself explaining the link between the experience and the 5 axioms. The links should be made directly. In selecting a specific experience, please note that it does not need to be with a well-known service organisation. The experience itself can be generic.
The main challenge is for you to unpack the interactions of the service experience and link those interactions to the S-D logic axioms. We strongly suggest that you follow the guidance given during weekly workshops.
The best approach for this recording assessment is to prepare a written script prior to your recording. A script will provide structure and allow you to touch on the most important points of the experience and the links to the 5 key axioms. However, this serves as advice only.
During the recording, you should not be reading out from a script. You should be explaining the experience and the correlation to S-D logic axioms. The written script will not be assessed, and you do not need to submit it to MyKBS.
The recording must present you as the expert opinion on S-D logic. You must deliver a recording with concise ideas. The experience and links made should be presented with a formal tone. Remember that this formative video is being used to explain the five (5) key axioms of S-D logic in a service setting; therefore, it's your task to explain, vocalise, and simplify the concept for a wider audience.
The findings presented in this formative video must be of high quality. This assessment intends for your video to serve as a foundational tool that explains S-D logic to someone unfamiliar with the concept.
The findings presented in this formative assessment must incorporate theories and concepts discussed in weeks 1 to 6, and you will be assessed on your ability to simplify complex concepts and provide an example in which the concept comes to life.
You must use at least ten (10) sources of information. These may include websites, social media sites, industry reports, census data, journal articles, and newspaper articles. These references should be presented as in-text citations and a reference list at the end of your slides (not included in the word limit).
