Question: This was a rule for living established by Benedict to create a moral, spiritual, and relational foundation for the community which he founded. It was meant to provide a way of life that carefully followed biblical principles for living and would define the ways in which members of the Benedictine community were to treat one another and others in all situations including personal and corporate life. Think of your own family, or your church community. Choose one of these communities and establish a Rule for Living that defines the way of life in the community. First, state the mission of your family or community. Next, state, in brief form, 8 to 10 biblically relevant rules that you believe would be essential for the community to express in all its relationships, ways of life, and service to others, what it means to live in a truly Christian way. remember that a Rule for Living should be relevant to mission.
