Directions for second paper:
Read chapters 3 and 4 this module and highlight points of interest.
Film: Babies: Love. This film is just under 50 minutes. It focuses on the "attachment" aspect of interactions during the first moments of child-parent connections. It continues to expand into those first moments that turns to days, weeks, and months of creating the unique bond. As you watch follow the film, keep your mind and the following topical areas.
• The culture of parenting, single parenthood, and social class.
• Roles of adults in the lives of the children.
• Positive and negative elements of parenting from your perspective.
• Individual children/adults developing/changing
• Influence of the social institutions presented (environment, health care issues, work settings, neighborhoods, community support or lack of support).
1. Please write a 4-5 full paper double spaced essay that connects our focused module chapter 3 and 4 readings with the film. This includes a APA title page and a reference page and the title and reference page do not count in the 4 to 5 pages of content.
2. Ensure you have 3 citations from chapter 3 and three citations from chapter 4 at a minimum.
You can pull in citations from previous chapters as well to go over the six citations, but I am looking for evidence that you are reading the assigned chapters each module, therefore I will be assessing at the minimum 3 citations from each of the assigned module two chapters.
3. Six in-text citations total at a minimum.
4. Similar to module one weave and synthesize concepts from the chapters into what you see in the film. Remember synthesis is NOT a summary, rather you making connections and themes that appear across the two different sources of information (textbook and the BABIES film) and then adding your own thinking to create new ways of thinking/questioning/wondering.
5. In your paper answer Part A (below) and then select from Part B, select 3 of the possible 5 questions to write about.
6. Part A: Using readings from chapter 3 and 4, please identify what concepts or themes are in conversation with each other and are reflected in this film (please include proper APA citations and a reference list). Paraphrasing or brief quotes are fine. No long or block quotes (40 or more words is considered a block quote in APA) please. I'm interested in your words and thinking or your thoughts on the authors words.
7. Part B (choose 3 of the following 5 questions to address). Do not write the question and then your answer, rather embed the question seamlessly into the flowing nature of your essay.
1. To what extent do you see the children in this film showing elements of socialization and by whom (behaviors, words, play)?
2. What socializing (socialization techniques, social skills, social norms, practices or rules) do you see taking place in the film initiated by adults? These can be positive or negative.
3. What evidence of attachment between infants and adults can you comment on with specific examples?
4. What struck you most as the film makers followed these families?
5. What did viewing this film teach or remind you about childhood in our society that you either did not know or had forgotten?
