Question: Congratulations, you have assembled your leadership team, and they are excited to participate in this meeting with you. Because your leadership team represents various roles-including the chief nursing officer (CNO), who is responsible for the clinical aspect of patient care delivery; the CFO, who is responsible for leveraging funds to keep abreast of trends in healthcare expenditures; and the chief technology officer (CTO), who is in charge of the protection of patient personal health information-this activity represents a simulated interprofessional meeting.

Working in a sector as complicated and complex as healthcare requires a type of leadership known as relational leadership, where individuals with professional roles and expertise can be maximized when their work is coordinated with other professionals in an atmosphere of trust, where communication is collaborative, and where there is an appreciation for each other's roles and responsibilities. Interprofessional teams function best when each member views their role from the leader's perspective, which fosters high-level strategic decision-making and action-taking, consensus building, and accountability sharing (Nelson, Tassone, & Hodges, (2014).
