In the reading, Patriarchy the System, Allan Johnson considers the fact that the Patriarchy system is affecting both men and women. Johnson highlights the concept of patriarchy as he argues that part of the problem with patriarchy stems from the social perspective that it is an individual commodity. The reading highlights the importance in individuals participating in the patriarchy subconsciously by contributing to some of the ideas that society has created such as gender oppression and the suggestion that men are the villains or that women are the good-hearted victims. Reflecting on Johnsons outlook on the patriarchy system, I do believe that in some way we do contribute to it as we tend to look at men as being the dominate gender or that in some other way women aren't participating in their own oppression.

In Black Feminist Epistemology, Patricia Hill Collins discusses the actuality of the knowledge that black women have contributed to our history and society that is not respected and accredited. Collins highlights that being as it is a white man in control of the social institutions, often times it is a black women's knowledge and ideas that are suppressed. The author also mentions that because of the suppression of black women, it had led women to use music, literature and everyday behavior as a means to establish a black feminist consciousness in a society dominated by white men. Collins goes on to consider that although no scholar can't circumvent the cultural ideas presented, the idea has to persuade the scholarly community, which is predominately white men, that it is justifiable or deemed worthy enough. I found this to be both interesting and surprising. Statement: White men who are in control of the western structures do not desire or are in a hurry to have the ideas of not only black people, but more specifically black women justified or put out there as an important part of our society.
