Assignment:

The primary role of the government is to fund programs and services they believe may not be available or are limited (p. 36) For example, they fund programs supporting smoking cessation, obesity prevention, and disease prevention through vaccinations (Finkler et al., p. 36). In addition, all three levels of the government (national, state, and local) are responsible for operating different hospitals and facilities. At the federal level, the government is responsible for larger systems such as the military, prisoners, and veterans (Finkler et al., p. 36). The state is responsible for smaller hospitals and clinics, whereas the local government is responsible for outpatient and long-term care facilities (Finkler et al., p. 36). Lastly, the government is considered a "payer for care" due to a lack of access to care for everyone (Finkler et al., p. 36).
