• Be able to discuss the various ways in which people may participate in government

• Describe different "types" of government with regard to "who" governs and "how" they govern
The role of the Constitution in American democracy:
• Know the major differences between the U.S. Constitution and the Articles of Confederation
• The major events leading to the Constitutional Convention
• The competing arguments for and against certain aspects of the Constitution
• Be able to describe the "living" nature of the constitution, and provide examples
• Compare that to the 'textualist' or 'originalist' interpretations
• Be able to compare and contrast the ideals articulated in the Constitution and the realities facing many Americans, especially minority populations
• Describe the various ways that the Constitution can change.
