The role of the community health nursing focuses on the acute and chronic conditions outside of a hospital setting. Community health nurses promote the needs of the individual and families, through educational roles. When the focus is not on the patient, the community health nurses addresses the concerns of the community and the issues that promote health improvement and illness prevention (Melo, 2019). The community health nurse uses epidemiology, studying disease prevalence in a population. The nurses role with working with community stakeholders create programs that are used for population health promotion. Other roles include "fosters community organization, act as a role model for leadership in provisions of health, and evaluate outcomes of interventions."

(Green, 2018) Community Resources (nonprofit, spiritual/religious) are important as a part of the community assessment because the assessment helps identify the impact of changes in the community. Organizations that are nonprofit or religious/spiritual helps enhance community participation. Community assessment monitors health status to investigate the health problems and hazards. Nonprofit organizations help aids community nurses in providing vaccinations, routine assessments or educational management for the public.
