Does the example of Thomas Jefferson, or other founding figures who were slave-owners, reflect the complex nature of American history in regard to the role of the black versus white American interaction? In other words, does Jefferson's life represent an example model of American racism, which includes his brilliance and achievement, (like current generations of whites who have supported and who currently are involved in every day African American lives in school, work, and professional advancement), but also his or current white Americans denial and refusal to acknowledge past transgressions and failure to acknowledge blacks as key figures who played a major role in the development that made America a powerful/great nation, also limit black opportunity for true American equality? Which, following this stance explains why blacks continue to lag behind in almost every feature of American culture in present day America. Or, are we too sensitive about race and expectations?
