This project allows students to reflect on the practices of Just-in Time in both services and manufacturing organisations. In this project, students will be required to work in groups of 6 to answer questions on the application of Just-in-Time for 4 case studies, 2 services and 2 products. Each group will select one case study from a hat in class. The four case studies are, Apple, MacDonald's, DELL and Zara. Based on the diagram in Fig 1 and on the principles of JIT explained in class and in your notes, as a group, please answer the following questions:

Explain why it was necessary to implement JIT in that organisation. (Max 1 page)

Identify at least five elements of JIT implemented at your organisation of choice. List elements in numbered bullet form (max 1 page)

In this section, explain how each element (mentioned in 3) is applied in your organisation of choice (max 2.5 pages). (As an example, Toyota managed to increase its production and survive disruptions by collaborating with their suppliers for valves and constructing an extra site for the production of valves in case of disruptions)

Make a comparison of the organisation before and after the implementation of the JIT elements that you have explained. (Please focus on the elements that you have selected) (as an example in a pilgrimage, the queues were reduced from 100 people to 10 people when JIT principles were applied. Assess how JIT affects sustainability, waste reduction, and energy consumption in the organisation of your choice. (Consider JIT's contribution to environmental, economic and social sustainability and the net zero economy) (Max 2 pages)

Explore the role of technology in facilitating JIT practices. Evaluate the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies (like IoT, AI, automation) on JIT manufacturing in the organisation that you have selected. Identify at least 3 Industry 4.0 aspects and explain how each affects JIT practices in your organisation of choice. (Max 2 pages)

Recently, manufacturing organisations, supply chains and services have been affected by global pandemic and disruptions like the COVID-19, earthquakes, floods etc. While JIT has assisted in efficient production, its effectiveness in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic has been questioned. Identify and explain 5 risks (of your own choice) faced by your company as a result of JIT processes. (Max 1 page)
