Many of you have been discussing whether or not is appropriate for Joan to disclose her sexual orientation. I am providing a journal article in which the researchers investigated whether self-disclosure of sexual orientation on the part of the counselor improved the quality of the counselor-client relationship when the client was LGBTQ (Stracuzzi, Mohr, & Fuertes, 2011). The researchers found that perceived sexual orientation similarity was not directly related to any of the counseling-related criterion variables. Based on the results of this study, do you believe that self-disclosure would be beneficial to the client relationship in the case of Joan and Samantha?
