Course Objectives

At the end of the course the Learners will be able to understand:

1. Understand the importance of layering architecture and classify different types of networks.

2. Study guided and unguided media and understand the importance of telephone system in computer communication.

3. Study various error control, flow control and access control protocols of data link layer

4. Study various access control protocols and understand different computer networking standards.

5. Understand role of network layer and its associated protocols.

6. Study design issues related to transport layer, QoS provisioning. Understand the need of security provisioning and various application layers protocols

Course Outcomes

1. Identify appropriate design issues, apply appropriate solution as per the reference model.

2. Select appropriate transmission media and switching mechanism for a given task.

3. Solve problems in the domain such as hamming code, CRC, framing etc. Also select proper. error control and flow control algorithni depending upon requirement.

4. Select proper access control algorithm depending upon requirement. And recognize the role of standards in computer network and apply knowledge of standards with real world applications

5. Select appropriate routing algorithm to send data from source to destination.

6. Know the importance of QoS provisioning to achieve end to end communisation. Identify the protocols needed for specific application.
