Davion entered an emergency room with flu-like symptoms accompanied by tachycardia and severe vomiting. After interviewing Davion and conducting a series of tests and screenings, it was determined that he was experiencing acute opioid withdrawal. Davion was admitted to the hospital to treat his severe dehydration and to provide him with medical supervision and psychological support through the detoxification process.

Think about the range of professional staff that might participate in Davion's treatment during his hospital stay. Which professionals may have participated in Davion's screening and assessment? What types of services do you imagine Davion may need over the course of his hospital admission and following his hospital discharge? And how might professionals from different disciplines be able to collaborate in Davion's care? Interdisciplinary teamwork can be challenging as professionals from vastly different training backgrounds come together to communicate about a client's treatment. However, when interdisciplinary teams collaborate effectively, they are often able to offer clients with substance use disorders exceptional, integrated care that fully meets all their needs.
