Your lab is interested in the role of immunity in aging. To your surprise, you find that the novel transcription factor is much less functional in older mice than in younger mice. You find that your transcription factor is expressed and activated at the same level in both young and old mice, and that the DNA that binds the transcription factor is not mutated in either mouse. For what reason might the transcription factor be able to function better in cells from the young mouse than the old one?
