The Role of HR in Strategy Formulation and Implementation

A Hardware Store, owned and operated by a Chinese family, established in 1968. The business is a hardware store situated in the business district of Tarlac City. The hardware store's retail operations mainly revolve around the sales of various building, plumbing and construction materials  for both residential and industrial customers. The mission of the company is to provide quality products backed by excellent customer service with consistency to every customer. The vision of the company is to become the leading provider of quality home improvement and construction products and solutions in the whole of Tarlac.

The company has long valued offering only standard and quality construction and building materials to its customers. It has prided itself in not offering substandard products to maximize profit. It continuously works towards finding the right balance between costs and still offering only the best products to its customers.

Case: Operated traditionally by the Owner and her 2 children. 

Structure: The company organizational structure is centralized like typical Chinese family businesses where all key functions (accounting, purchasing, warehouse management, HR) are performed by the owners and job descriptions, business processes and policies are not formalized or documented. All employee's salary are equal regardless of the position or role in the business. No strict compliance with government mandate with regards to their employees. Using manual ledgers in recording their transactions, no proper accounting system in place. They have concerns with their high accounts receivables because they are not strict in screening customers.
