The course textbook suggest that "the first New Deal, from 1933 to early 1935, focused mainly on recovery and relief fro the poor and unemployed" and that "no single ideological position united all the programs, for Roosevelt was a pragmatist who was willing to try different programs." (714) Identify four distinct specific programs established during the first new Deal and clearly explain how each focused on recovery and relief for the poor and/or the unemployed. Then, explain how the four examples you have chosen embodied different views on how to provide relief and recovery. Show how these four examples, when examined together, demonstrate the implementation of programs that varied on the role of government in addressing the situation, on the specific kinds of activities upon which they concentrated, and on the methods used to provide recovery and relief.
