The role of gender in eating disorders is striking. Most patients with these disorders are young females, and among the males with these disorders (also generally young), it appears that gay men may well be over-represented.

Why are women seemingly more vulnerable, and heterosexual (but not gay) men more resilient, with this particular set of disorders?
