A fundamental role of any manager is to coordinate work activities so they are completed efficiently and effectively. Imagine you manage a retail store and were asked by the owners to cut costs by 3%. You decided to lay off a number of employees to achieve cost savings. You then speak with the rest of the staff to inform them of the change and that workload may increase in the short term and to reassure them that there will be no more layoffs. As a result of your layoffs, store costs are now inline, however, customer satisfaction ratings have dropped significantly.
