I believe that healthcare professionals play a very important role in health promotion. However, I believe that as the member of a healthcare team that spends the most time with the patient, nurses are the key to health promotion for patients. During their time at a patient's bedside, nurses are able to gather a lot of information about the patient. This includes factors in the patient's life that may be a leading cause of disease in their future. By identifying these factors and educating the patient on why it may be harmful to them and what they can do to improve, nurses have the ability to change patient lives for the better. By educating them on the "why", nurses are giving patients the additional information they need to be motivated to make changes to their behaviors or routines.
