Unit 35 Professional Engineering Management - Pearson Higher Nationals in Engineering
Assignment - Risk evaluation theories and practices for management of projects and production of engineering services delivery plan.
Learning Outcome 1: Evaluate the risk evaluation theories and practices associated with the management of projects for the production of current and developing technology.
Learning Outcome 2: Produce an engineering services delivery plan that meets the requirements of a sector-specific organisation.
Vocational Scenario
UXB Ltd. is a global engineering, management and development company which focuses on guiding their clients through many of the planet's most intricate challenges. UXB specialises in consultancy for their clients for managing the engineering activities for the production of current and advanced technologies.
You are one of their employees who has joined their engineering management team to support the research and development department for various engineering projects. The company concentrates in embedding maintenance and continual improvement in everyday engineering activities and identifies and corrects the causes of failures that occur despite the efforts to prevent them. The Client (HCUC, Uxbridge College) has given a time plan of 12 months to complete the build and estimated cost of £4M to build and design. The You are assigned by your line manager to be fully responsible to manage and deliver technical report for the client to ensure the Maintenance of the process and engineering activities. The client has requested to evaluate the Maintenance of risk evaluation theories and practices associated with the management of projects, and produce reliable engineering services delivery plan for the client. Therefore, you must carry out the following activities to complete the report.
Activity 1
Your task is to specify and analyse the challenges encountered when meeting the requirements for successfully managing engineering activities in your chosen specialist projects of investigation. In addition, it is required to make justified recommendations to overcome those identified challenges to ensure the Maintenance of the product system or services for the organisation.
To do this you are required to critically evaluate the main elements and issues that impact the successful management of engineering activities. It is required to complete your report via assessing the various elements and issues that impact the successful management of engineering activities.
Furthermore, you are also required to evaluate the risk evaluation theories and practices associated with the management of engineering projects for the production of current and developing technologies. As part of evaluating the risk evaluation theories you may describe the benefits and dangers of risk taking in engineering projects, you may want to include explanation of identifying degree of comfortable risk for the projects and risk management strategies.
(Hint: To complete this activity, you must conduct literature survey to justify secondary research. Locate, interpret and use information from technical engineering literature. This could include, but is not limited to, technical journals or other publications, symposium reports or information gathered from interviews with practising engineers or relevant field experts. You have to select the same engineering activities for the whole task.)
Activity 2 :-
In this activity you must critically evaluate contingencies that might prevent the delivery plan meeting the requirements of your chosen sector-specific organisation. You could analyse the probability of the success of engineering services delivery plan with the contingencies in place as well as the challenges to meet those requirements.
To achieve this, you are required to evaluate how each step of the delivery plan meets the requirements of sector-specific organisation. This will be achieved by developing an engineering services delivery plan and applying the appropriate sector-specific requirements.
Furthermore, it is required to determine the engineering management tools required for designing an engineering services delivery plan.
(Hint: As a general guide, this could include, but is not limited to, the discussion on the use of technical knowledge, the application of methods and tools, and the practicability of results, creativity and economical evaluation.
