Rim Ridge Arts Council - Board of Directors
You have just started a new job as a middle-level finance manager at Hometown Industries. Your company encourages employees to do community service and considers it in annual performance reviews, which impact salary increases and when promoting employees. After meeting Maya Smith, a representative of Rim Ridge Community Arts Association, a non-profit organization that promotes the performing arts in your town you receive an email from her requesting that you join the Rim Ridge Arts Council - Board of Directors.
The board's main job is raising funds to support the arts, but the board also relies on its members' various professional expertise to run the organization. At first, you are flattered, this seems like a great opportunity for you to use your expertise to do some philanthropic work and maybe impress your boss, but as you think about being a board member, you really wonder whether you want to work all day at your job and then do the same type of work one or two evenings a week. Plus, you really don't have much interest in the arts. After thinking about it, you realize this just isn't the right opportunity for you.
Respond professionally to Maya turning down her invitation to serve on the board.
