This discussion requires you to make a recommendation for EBPs to apply to the Richard Whitman case. In the final recommendations for this case Brenda Desmond, the clinician, states, "At this point, I recommend he engage in level 1.0 outpatient counseling with a dually-licensed mental health/substance abuse clinician for up to three years." The clinician reviewing his case, Frances Henry Williams, would like to be more specific. Considering what you have recently learned about EBPs, respond to the following questions and comments.

• Remember the "Gateway Video" - what does this case say about issues of polarization and lack of service integration?
• What will constitute successful treatment for Mr. Whitman?
• Determine how and why you would apply different specific EBPs to various aspects of the case.
• Perhaps there is an aspect of the case which does not seem amenable to one of the models-ask about it.
• Is Mr. Whitman a good candidate for 12-step programs? CBT? MET? Contingency Management? Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment?
• Is he a good candidate for group therapy?
