To prepare for this Discussion assignment, reflect on the resources about trauma provided in the module. I highly recommend reviewing the reading on Complex Trauma (Cook, et al., 2007), at least, before even locating a news article, as required for this assignment. This will help you to realize the many variations of trauma and acknowledge ways to mitigate.

Be sure to cite in APA and add references at the end of your post (you can literally copy/paste these from the prompt below).

Respond to the following prompts below by Friday night:

1. What did you already know about ACEs and what did you learn this week from the required resources provided in the module?

• How can the information you learned be applied in your current or future work?

2. Identify a current news article (NOT a research article) regarding a child(ren) who appears to have suffered trauma. Remember, trauma consists of experiences related to abuse, neglect/poverty, domestic violence, displacement, accidents, natural disasters, war, parent-separation, racial traumas, etc. The child (any age, from any culture or country) may have either experienced the traumatic event personally or merely have been a witness to it.

• Describe the traumatic event discussed in the news article AND provide a link or reference to the news source.
• Explain some of the symptoms or behaviors that we might immediately see in the child as a result of this trauma and according to their age (based on assigned readings/videos).
• Explain some possible consequences in the distant future of having experienced this trauma. Consider the impact upon cognitive, emotional, and social development of the child as they grow into adulthood (based on assigned resources).
• What can a person do as helping professionals (and human beings) to mitigate this kind of trauma? (based on assigned resources).
• Finally, identify at least one LOCAL (in YOUR area of residence) organization or agency that works to provide support and services for individuals, families, and/or communities affected by this kind of trauma (include website, contact info, and a brief summary of what they do).
