Assignment:
Upon reviewing Mintzberg's writings on organizational strategy, for an organization to be successful, it must follow the five strategies which include the following: Plan- A specific course of action, know exactly what you want to accomplish, why, and how. Ploy-Figure out who your competitors are and what they must outwit them and make your action plan better to intimidate them. Pattern-A consistent behavior, sometimes unintended. A pattern can help you see some things that you might need to change. Position- Finding where the organization fits within the environment, whether it be internal or external context. Perspective- Strategy in this respect is to the organization what personality is to the individual. What is of key importance is that strategy is a perspective shared by members of an organization, through their intentions and/or their actions (University of Cambridge, 2018).
In 1999 the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics board named a new CEO but shortly after it was determined that the hospital was experiencing a loss of revenue and market share, operating deficits, a 22% nurse vacancy rate, and patient satisfaction scores below the 40th percentile (Sollenger, D. 2006). Based on what I have read and researched, the strategies of the new CEO and Mintzberg strategy plan are similar and if not the same. The CEO started with the pre-planning process that consisted of objectives, a breakdown of responsibilities, experiences, timeframes, and expectations.
They then determined what their customers are looking at when determining the quality and how much money they will have to improve the organization and stand out against their competitors. All participants were invited to meet up and go over the goals, finances, growth, and changes regularly. She set the organizational structure of the strategic plan up in five groups so that everyone knew where they stood and what their duties and responsibilities were. The CEO had a goal, she planned it out and implemented it, and she went back multiple times and updated that plan as and when necessary.
