Assignment:
The social work profession is guided by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics and it serves as a guide to the everyday professional conduct of social workers.
After reviewing the NASW Code of Ethics Core Values, discuss a core value that you have demonstrated in the past: service, as well as a core value that you would like to develop: social justice for the disabled population, while completing the MSW program. Please use specific examples.
The NASW Code of Ethics includes working with diverse populations and communities whose values and beliefs may be different from yours. Discuss two previous experiences that are relevant to individual differences and/or diversity, as described within the NASW Code of Ethics: As an individual with Achondroplasia Dwarfism, I am part of the disabled community, a severely oppressed population. I have experienced marginalization, discrimination, and exclusion throughout my life. I have been stared at, ridiculed, and even denied service because of my dwarfism. However, I have also experienced the power of community and the strength of the human spirit. I have met many amazing people who have taught me about acceptance, compassion, and love. I am proud to be a part of the disabled community, compassion, and love. I am proud to be a part of the disabled community, and I am committed to advocating for change.
Describe a specific aspect or issue in social work that interests you most and explain how you became interested in this issue: Social acceptance for the disabled population.
