Structure of essay
The assessment is an essay and consists of two parts, which will involve staged assessment, as follows -
a. Research strategy:
The purpose of the first part (Part a) is for you to demonstrate you have developed a research strategy and a conceptual and framework in relation to your chosen client group. This would include a brief description of your topic, an introductory statement/proposition, an outline to identify the areas/issues to be addressed, identified relevant research that will be relied upon for each issue and the structure of your essay.
b. Essay The second part (Part b) will be the full essay, based substantially on what you had outlined (in Part a), taking into account any feedback received as part of assessment of Part a.
The essay topic The assessment will require you to research and review the welfare law and its application in practice for one of the following vulnerable client groups in Australia:
• mental health inpatients requiring protection of their human rights in Australia
• children requiring protection from parental abuse in Australia
• people with a disability requiring protection from discrimination in the workplace in Australia
• elderly requiring protection from financial abuse in Australia
Your essay must include the following:
• analysis of the reasons why legal protection is needed
• overview of the relevant principles of welfare law that underpin the legal protection
• critique of the current application of the law for legal protection of your chosen vulnerable group
