Diet Analysis Project
Worksheet/Micronutrients
SECTION THREE: Micronutrient Assessment
This week you will be assessing your micronutrient intake from your three-day food records and comparing it to the dietary guidelines.
Part I:
Complete the table for each micronutrient to find the three-day average. You will need the three-day average in order to compare your daily intake to the guidelines.
Part 2.
Compare your three-day average with the recommended dietary guidelines that pertain to you. Then determine if you meet the needs, are under/deficient or over/excess.
Part 3.
Review the results of your vitamin and mineral intake. In each box, discuss how you can improve your results to meet your recommended needs. Be specific on how to increase or decrease your intake (which foods, portions, meals).
You will use these recommendations for the final section (MDA part 4) where you will develop a new meal plan incorporating all of your results and recommendations.
The recommendations you discuss should be realistic, easy to obtain with the ability to add to your diet.
Part 4. Briefly complete the reflection of this experience and results.
To Submit:
1. This completed worksheet
2. The spreadsheet report for each day (this should be three individual reports)
Part 1:
Find the three-day average. You can use either the single nutrient report or the spreadsheet report to locate the information for the chart. However, you must submit a separate spreadsheet report for each day (three total).
Part 2:
Using the results from the three-day average, compare to the DRI/AI for each nutrient. Then comment the results of your intake for each (did you meet needs, under or deficient, over or in excess). If you are over or in excess indicate whether you are under the upper limit for the nutrient.
Part 3:
Evaluate and discussthe results of each nutrient. What you can do to meet the requirements? Be specific with foods, portions and reasons why you chose the food. For example, if you are low in calcium, what specific foods can you add to your diet to help you meet the required needs? Where can you add them in your diet?
Reflection:
Summarize your experience and results. Was there anything that surprised you? Which micronutrients had the greatest variance that you need to focus on? Are there any micronutrients that you were in range or close range? Choose two micronutrients that you are low and briefly discuss how this could affect your health?
SUBMIT: There will be a 1 point deduction for each missing report.
