Practical Activities:
For this task you are to complete the following steps to plan and manage the materials supply for an engineering project or for a manufacturing operation.
Complete the following steps to identify and verify the production or fabrication requirements for the engineering project or manufacturing operation, doing so obtaining information from a wide variety of sources:
1. Obtain and review the task documentation to identify, and record, the parameters, context and objectives of the manufacturing or project operations.
2. Verify that the key internal and external stakeholders, labour and skills distribution, functional team relationships, information flow requirements, communications and reporting lines, and procedures are appropriate for the operational objectives of the task. Document this verification.
3. Review the planning and management for the operations, confirming that it is compatible with the scheduling, purchasing and production control measures. Document this review.
4. Confirm the arrangements for reporting and technical support. Provide evidence of this confirmation.
5. Verify that the facilities, services, plant, tooling and software, process layout and use of automation are appropriate to the product manufacturability. Document this verification.
6. Review the ask to identify and confirm that compliance requirements are observed, including those relating to OHS, regulations, codes of practice, standards, risk assessment and registration requirements for manufacturing plant. Document this review.
Develop the production plan through completion of the following steps;
7. Participate in the development of the demand forecast. Provide the developed document.
8. In consultation with relevant stakeholders, prepare a production or project plan to meet the quality, demand and delivery timelines within the capacity and budget constraints of the task.
9. Manage the preparation of the purchasing schedules. Provide these purchasing schedules.
10. Manage, or assist in the preparation of, the production schedules. Provide a copy of the developed production schedules.
11. Develop contingency arrangements. Provide copies of the contingency arrangements.
12. In consultation with the relevant stakeholders, review the final proposals. Document this review, including any changes required.
13. Develop, and document, the KPI's for the materials supply. Perform the following steps to implement the production plan:
14. Delegate the responsibilities for purchasing and detailed scheduling, and those for communicating the tail/ priorities and KPI's. Document the delegation.
15. Manage, and record, the materials and product flow and transfer operations, buffer and emergency stocks, warehousing, stores and logistics.
16. Coordinate the quality and process control procedures. Document this coordination.
17. Coordinate and monitor the physical, human and financial resources and the budget to achieve the production plan, managing the supplier contracts and arrangements as required. Document this coordination and monitoring.
18. Maintain the information and reporting procedures throughout the implementation, communicating as required to effectively to participate, cooperate and negotiate with the relevant stakeholders. Provide copies of these.
19. Monitor the operation for compliance with organisational policies and procedures, product and process sustainability, coordinating continuous improvement, problem solving and decision making, as necessary to address systems constraints and contingencies, implementing constraints and contingencies, and adjusting the short-term planning and rescheduling as required. Record monitoring of compliance, including constraints identified and addressed, providing any constraints, contingencies, adjusted planning or rescheduling applied to the task.
Monitor the operational performance through the following activities:
20. Review the actual materials supply against the KPI's. Provide this review.
21. Contribute to a review of the manufacturing operations against the production plan and other KPI's. Provide this review.
22. Participate in the continuous improvement procedures, including lean operation principles and procedures. Record all continuous improvement participation.
23. Review the options and implementation of software options, such as enterprise resource planning (ER, system control and data acquisition (SCADA) and spreadsheets. Provide this review.
24. In accordance with the organisational procedures, contribute to risk management procedures and system maintenance. Document all risk management and system maintenance contributions.
25. Report progress against the production plan, in accordance with procedures.. Provide these reports.
26. As required throughout the operational performance, provide documentation, data entry and analysis, including maintaining records of the professional, trades and industry contacts, sources of information and resources accessed and used.
