Reimbursement refers to payment regarding healthcare and services provided by a physician, medical professional, or agency. Often, your health insurer or a government payer covers the cost of all or part of your health care. Depending on your health plan, you may be responsible for some of the cost, and if you don't have health care coverage at all, you will be responsible to reimburse your health care providers for the whole cost of your health care. With that in mind, a third-party payer is an organization that processes claims for reimbursement covered by a health care plan. There are excellent federal organizations to assist you with learning about reimbursement aspect (which is part of medical coding and billing) such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS)

America's Health and Insurance Plans (AHIP) is another.
