Question - Domestic Violence
The concept of domestic violence revolves around constant abuse towards someone in one's household. This includes physical or sexual abuse towards a partner that becomes a repetitive cycle. For instance, punching, pushing, kicking, or forcing sexual intercourse without consent. This is a serious problem within communities that occur and may be avoided by those involved. According to Ake, domestic violence is a public health problem that is not appropriately addressed during visits, which does affect the family environment (2016). The appropriate screening should include directly asking the patient about safety concerns during each visit. This may vary based on warning signs that may require private evaluations without suspicion of the abuser. The present risk factors for domestic violence include emotional dependence, low-self-esteem, insecurities and an anti-social personality. The strategy of removing someone from the room due to safety concerns does evaluate safety and prevent for an increase in abuse. As Ake explains, domestic violence can be a challenge because the victim can choose to not report the violence (2016). There are various resources, advise, recommendations, and support available. However, the woman may choose to ignore them or just fear any type of action due to present control. Hence, proving a safety plan with strategies and resources is crucial to promote safety, support and guidance.
