Instructions
In Week 1 of the Foundation Field Practicum, the learner and MSW Field Supervisor (and point of contact at the agency, if applicable) will use this form to develop field education practicum learning activities. During the quarter, the Learner and MSW Field Supervisor (and point of contact at the agency, if applicable) are expected to review the Learning Contract to assess Learner progress on the learning goals. At the end of the practicum experience, this will be used as the basis of a final evaluation.
The Learning Contract reflects the educational goals of Capella University Master of Social Work and the Core Competencies of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The CSWE Core Competencies comprise the knowledge, values, and skills essential to social work practice, which are the learning objectives in the Learning Contract. These competencies are further operationalized in 31 Generalist Practices, which serve as the learning goals in the foundation field education experience.
Completing the Learning Contract
Fill out the information on the first page of the Learning Contract.
1. Review the Competencies and Generalist Practices on the Learning Contract below, and consider your individual learning needs for every competency and associated behavior.
2. In the first week of the practicum experience, the learner and MSW Field Supervisor (and point of contact at the agency, if applicable) are expected to review the Core Competencies, Generalist Practices, and the Syllabus to negotiate activities that will support the generalist practice competency.
3. The learning activities should be recorded on the Learning Contract with expected due dates to complete the activity. Please note that these goals should cover both quarters (5025 and 5026) for the foundation learner, developing each skill across 20 weeks of practice. Please ensure that all competencies and generalist practices are covered in the Learning Contract. Each goal should be measurable, show progression, and have one specific due date.
4. The Field Supervisor will review, offer suggestions, approve, and sign the Learning Contract with the Learner. The Field Supervisor will return the approved form to the Learner. The Learner will then upload the signed Learning Contract as a single document to the Field Faculty Liaison in the courseroom by Friday in Week 1 for review.
5. The Learner is expected to share a copy of the signed, approved final Learning Contract for the MSW Field Supervisor (and point of contact at the agency, if applicable) and retain one copy for their own record.
6. The Learner is expected to submit a copy of the signed Learning Contract to the Field Education Office via the field education software database.
Evaluating Learning Performance with the Learning Contract
Site Visit and Evaluation
During the quarter, a one-hour supervisor session, the MSW Field Supervisor and Learner should discuss the Learner's progress using the Learning Contract. The MSW Field Supervisor is expected to offer instruction, support, and recommendations toward the Learner's goal of achieving mastery of the CSWE Core Competencies. Any recommended learning activities updates should be negotiated between the Learner and MSW Field Supervisor. The Learner should share the recommended updates with the Field Faculty Liaison in the courseroom for review.
SWEAP Evaluation
1. The SWEAP evaluation is required to be completed for the learner to pass field education and will be sent via email to the agency supervisor from the Field Office during Week 7.
2. The MSW Field Supervisor is expected to review the final evaluation with the Learner between Weeks 7 and 9. The learner will be required to upload the evaluation in Week 9 as an assignment.
Developing Individual Learning Activities
The foundation practicum learning activities should be appropriate to new graduate-level generalist practice as identified by CSWE and the Master of Social Work program. The learning activities must be varied and based on the Learner's personal learning goals and the activities available at the practicum site.
