One important competency we will practice in this course is creating case studies. You can Google "case study" and see what comes up to get an idea not only of this particular approach to research that is used both in the academia and many industries outside of education, but also what kind of case studies there are.

There are several skills that are necessary to mastering the case study approach, one of which is finding and vetting sources. For this blog post you will find 2 sources and discuss them.

Your research question is: is Amazon a good corporate citizen?

Step 1. Review several recent media sources that focus on various aspects of Amazon's corporate citizenship, such as how they treat their workers, whether they provide good customer service, how they support communities where they do business, how they impact the environment, etc. Forbes, NPR, BBC, and the Wall Street Journal might be some good places to start.

Step 2. Decide whether based on the information you reviewed you believe that the company IS or IS NOT a socially responsible company.

Step 3. Start your post with your basic answer to the research question.

Step 4. Choose 2 sources that you feel support your position on Amazon's CSR. These sources must be:

  • legitimate/reputable;
  • relevant to the question being discussed;
  • more-or-less objective;
  • recent (no older than 5 years).

Your sources can be videos of news segments, documentaries, journal or newspaper articles, etc.

You MAY NOT use textbooks or any already created case studies. You cannot use any sources in the Unit 3 folder.

Step 5. Provide your 2 sources as direct URLs or as PDF files.

Step 6. For each source, explain why you chose it and why you believe it to be an appropriate source to use to support your answer to the research question. Each explanation should be about 2-3 sentences.

Step 7. Proofread your work before submitting.
