Question: Science News (25 February 1995, p. 124) reported a study of 232 people, aged 55 or over, who had heart surgery. The patients were asked whether their religious beliefs give them feelings of strength and comfort and whether they regularly participate in social activities. Of those who said yes to both, about 1 in 50 died within 6 months after their operation. Of those who said no to both, about 1 in 5 died within 6 months after their operation. What is the relative risk of death (within 6 months) for the two groups? Write your answer in a sentence or two that would be understood by someone with no training in statistics.
