Assignment Brief
Assume, you are a team member of BCAS advisory board and you have been requested to prepare the reports for the following project. The description of the projects is given below.
The Director of BCAS has decided to expand the class facilities adjoining the existing five story steel building to enhance the facilities with library with reading facilities, sufficient no of toilets, separate rest rooms for male/female, cafeteria, computer laboratory, basement car parking area, building services and other facilities. The proposal is similar to the existing five story building.
You have been requested to visit the exiting site and collect the relevant information required to improve the building facilities to full fill the requirements of tasks accordingly. Also, you have to study the given borehole data for the selection of suitable foundation/ substructure elements by considering the ground condition and propose the required details for the task given. You may consider different material for the building elements according to the requirement.
Part 1
The health & safety, design management regulations and risk assessment are vital for the selection of building material and explain how regulations impact on the use, storage and handling of a selection of vocationally typical construction materials for proposed building using appropriate diagrams, video and examples to get a clear idea for the materials selection and assess how risk assessments can be used to address significant hazards posed by selected materials or activities. Then you have to discuss how multiple regulations and legislation would apply to a given site activity, highlighting how to plan and manage for safe handling and usage for the proposed project.
Part 2
The environmental and suitability factors impact and influencing the material choice. You have to explain material environmental profiling and lifecycle assessment, use a relevant material to exemplify your explanation for the proposed building construction site using appropriate reports, example and documents to get a clear idea about and discuss the benefits of product declaration and environmental certification. Then you have to Produce a waste management plan for the above project, taking into account a typical range of relevant waste materials and Illustrate how the use of sustainable practices and considerations for material choice can improve the environmental rating of the completed building.
Part 3
You aware that the choice of materials for a given building based on the performance, properties, experimental data, sustainability, environmental consideration and request to present the results of relevant testing procedures to identify performance characteristics of selected construction materials using appropriate example and document to discuss the results in terms of the material properties and regulatory requirements, highlighting any unexpected results and why these may occur. Then Select construction materials for a given building based upon their performance properties in use. You are request to assess the effects of loading structural materials and compare the behaviours and performance of materials which could be used for the same function and illustrate how the use of sustainable practices and considerations for material choice can improve the environmental rating of the completed the proposed building.
Part 4
The performance of the materials are essential respect on human comfort requirements and define the material selection strategy with regard to human comfort requirements using appropriate reports, example and documents to get a clear idea and identify materials for a selected area within a building and explain how these contribute to a balanced indoor environment quality. Then you have requested to perform calculations which relate to a selected area (lux levels, u-values, acoustic and ventilation) and evaluate how the use of passive or active strategies can minimise energy, materials, water, and land use for the proposed building in details.
