Diabetes Prevention Program for Older Adults
Abstract
This paper traverses on the topic Diabetes Prevention Program in older Adults. The aging of the general populace is an imperative diabetes epidemic driver. Despite the fact that diabetes burden is normally explained in terms of its effects on the adults who are within the age working bracket, it should be known that diabetes in the older adults is associated with increased institutionalization risk, reduced functional status as well as higher mortality.
Additionally, older adults who are suffering from diabetes are highly susceptible to both chronic and acute cardiovascular and micro vascular diabetes complications. Accordingto American Diabetes Association (ADA), an estimate of almost 23.6 million people suffers from type 2 Diabetes in the United States. Diabetes is described as a monstrous disease thatthe battle is worth tackling. This paper will explore on diabetes prevention program designed for older people. In doing this, the available diabetes literature and suggested programs for diabetes prevention will be evaluated.
