This section reviews effective gang-related intervention and suppression programs that have been identified since systematic reviews of gang programs began in 2005. Rigorous reviews of gang programs were made a U.S. government executive branch priority at that time, and nine federal agencies were directed by the White House to establish criteria for these reviews. Using this methodology, programs were scored on the following widely accepted scientific standards for judging program effectiveness:

Program fidelity (adherence to original program operation guidelines, dosage, and program attrition)
Evaluation design (research design, sample size, group equivalence)
Outcome evidence (follow-up period, outcome differences, integrity of findings)
