Telephone systems around the world, in general, derive their revenues from the prices they charges its customers (plus from taxes and federal aid). If more and more people use the 'Magic Jack', Skype and other VoIP-based technologies to obtain a 'free' phone call, how will these telephone companies be able to stay in business while their revenues drop as VoIP usage increases?
