Question

What is significant regarding resuscitation for patients with hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state? 1-2 L of normal saline should be administered over 1-2 hours. Patients may have a 10L fluid deficit and require more free water and greater volume replacement. Slow correction of fluid deficit is necessary to avoid fluid overload. Dextrose 5% at 250 ml/hr. should be used to correct fluid loss.
