The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25. Florida's minimum wage in 2022 is higher than the federal minimum wage, at $10/hr. The Fair Labor Standards Act does require employers in the state of Florida to post a sign with this information to ensure that employees are aware of the minimum that they are to be paid. There are exceptions to this rule, including workers under 20, students and tipped positions, which are allowed to be paid under the minimum wage. The $10 an hour rate applies to the first 40 hours of a work week. Any hours over 40 hours that are worked in a week are considered overtime and those hours paid out at time and a half, or $15/hr. The wage will be increasing over the next few years until it reaches $15 an hour. I found a website from 2011 that listed several towns in Florida as towns with living wage ordinances. However, when looking at recent articles, I found less information. I did find that in Broward Country, a worker needs to be paid $13.61 with benefits or $17.05 without benefits according to the living wage ordinance. This would apply to certain positions inly and if the ordinance is not followed their may be action taken resulting in a law suit and sanctions.
