Individuals with ovaries do have some testosterone in their bodies, but in much smaller amounts compared to individuals with testes. Anabolic steroids are laboratory produced versions of testosterone used to treat hormone problems, delayed puberty, and muscle loss from some diseases. Some people misuse anabolic steroids without considering the legal or safety implications. Ingestion of anabolic steroids provides an exogenous source of a signaling component that can alter the endogenous levels naturally produced inside an organism.
